The Inukshuk Letters

The INUKSHUK LETTERS is a not-for-profit organization created to provide a platform for sharing ideas and knowledge about our built environment. We honour and respect our rich Canadian indigenous heritage for their resourcefulness, artistry, and creativity. We are inspired by the courage and resilience of the Inuit people living in such a harsh environment. We, therefore, use an inukshuk as our logo to remind and motivate us that we can foster mutuality in human relationships, learn from one another, and co-exist with nature in harmony.

About Inukshuk

Inukshuk means "in the likeness of a human" in the Inuit language. They are monuments made of unworked stones used for centuries by the indigenous peoples in the Arctic regions of Canada for communication and survival. The traditional meaning of the Inukshuk is "someone was here" or "you are on the right path." The purpose is to communicate with travellers in this harsh region: to provide directions for navigation or indicate places suitable for hunting, fishing, and shelter. The Inukshuk may have cultural and spiritual importance within these northern communities.
